Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher reunite at the Lido: “We’re changing our story”

Liam and Noel Gallagher brought Oasis’s long-awaited reunion to the Venice Film Festival, where fans gathered from the morning in band shirts and crowded the red carpet for the evening screening.

The brothers attended the photocall for the world premiere of “Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger,” a documentary by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, but skipped the press conference. The film, written by Steven Knight, follows their reconciliation through rehearsals and concerts during the world tour.

Oasis ended in 2009 after a furious argument in Paris, shortly before a concert that never took place. The documentary traces the brothers from silence during their early rehearsals to a renewed onstage partnership, with performances of songs including “Wonderwall,” “Champagne Supernova,” “Stand by Me” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”

With the tour, we have an opportunity to change the narrative about the band.

Liam greeted fans from a motorboat with his fist raised and joked with journalists beside the more reserved Noel. When Venice festival director Alberto Barbera joined them for photographs, Liam jokingly asked whether he was George Clooney.

“I feel like I’m exorcising demons, bringing all the anger out,” Liam said. Noel described the tour as “an opportunity to change the narrative about the band.” The documentary will open in cinemas on September 10, including selected IMAX screenings, before streaming internationally as a Disney+ exclusive by the end of the year.
