Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is intensifying efforts to tackle environmental challenges with its monthly "Cleaning Day" initiative and a waste awareness rally. The program aims to foster public participation in preventing waterlogging and reducing pollution across all 75 wards.

If everyone fulfils their responsibilities, a significant portion of the problems related to waterlogging, waste management and environmental pollution can be controlled. To remove Dhaka from the list of the world's most polluted cities, citizens must change their behaviour.

DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the rally, emphasizing that transforming Dhaka into a clean and green city hinges on public awareness and collective action. He stated that if citizens fulfill their responsibilities, significant progress can be made in managing waterlogging, waste, and pollution. Salam also highlighted the resumption of public dustbin installations, urging business owners to provide bins and citizens to refrain from indiscriminate dumping.

There is now no excuse for indiscriminate dumping of waste.

Salam called for a shift in public mindset, urging residents not to solely attribute waterlogging issues to the city corporation. He pointed out that even small items like a polythene bag or a mattress can obstruct drains, leading to widespread waterlogging. The rally, which distributed leaflets on the causes of waterlogging, proper waste management, and the dangers of plastic pollution, marched through the capital to further spread awareness.
