A court in Bogura has ordered the jailing of Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir, a recently suspended joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party. The decision came after police presented him in court following his arrest in connection with a case alleging derogatory remarks about the prime minister on social media.

Tanvir was apprehended by police in Dhaka's Manipur early Tuesday morning. He was subsequently brought before the Bogura Sadar Cognisance Court, where Senior Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan ordered his detention. OC Ibrahim Ali of Bogura Sadar Police Station confirmed the arrest.

The case was initiated on August 2 by Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel, president of the Bogura Sadar upazila BNP unit. Filed under the Cyber Security Act 2026, the complaint centers on Facebook posts made by Tanvir. According to the case statement, Tanvir, then a central leader of the National Citizen Party, allegedly defamed the prime minister in a July 29 post concerning recent attacks in Sylhet. The complaint also states he made another provocative post shortly afterward.

In response to the allegations, the National Citizen Party suspended Tanvir from his party post and issued him a show-cause notice on July 31.
