Engineer Belayet Hossain, a prominent figure in the Chattogram chapter of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been appointed as the new chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA). The Ministry of Public Administration confirmed the appointment through a gazette notification, establishing a one-year term for the position.

Hossain's appointment is made on a contractual basis, as stipulated by the Chattogram Development Authority Act of 2018. His tenure will commence upon his joining and will extend for a full year. The notification also mandates that Hossain must sever all professional, business, or employment connections with any government, semi-government, or private entities prior to commencing his duties at the CDA.

Belayet Hossain, a native of Sandwip upazila in Chattogram, has a background in engineering and has been active in local politics. He previously served as the joint convener of the Chattogram (North) District BNP and was a candidate seeking nomination for the Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) constituency in the most recent parliamentary elections. Hossain himself confirmed the appointment to the media.
