Dhaka University celebrated the legacy of legendary Nazrul Sangeet singer Feroza Begum with the "Feroza Begum Memorial Lecture and Scholarship Award 2026." The event, held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, brought together academics, cultural figures, and students to commemorate her significant contributions to music.

ACI Group Chairman and trustee donor M Anis Ud Dowla, along with other dignitaries including DU Vice Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Md Abul Kalam Sarker, were present. The keynote memorial lecture, titled “Surer Dhrubotara: Sur Shomraggi Feroza Begum,” was delivered by Sadya Afreen Mallick, chief of Culture Initiatives at The Daily Star and founder of Gems of Nazrul. Mallick highlighted Feroza Begum's profound impact, stating, “She did not simply sing Nazrul’s songs. In her voice, Nazrul’s songs became a unique combination of the poet’s feelings and philosophy.”

The ceremony also recognized academic excellence, with two students honored as gold medal recipients. Furthermore, 11 students were awarded the Feroza Begum Memorial Scholarship, supporting their pursuit of musical education. DU Vice Chancellor Prof Obaidul Islam emphasized the importance of preserving Feroza Begum’s rich musical heritage for future generations. The program concluded with reaffirmations from Dr Priyanka Gope and Prof Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on the necessity of safeguarding her musical legacy.
