A suicide bombing targeting an anti-militancy demonstration has killed at least 14 people, including five police officers, in Kabal, located in Pakistan's northwestern Swat Valley. The attack occurred on August 2, 2026, outside a local police station where hundreds of citizens had gathered to protest escalating militant violence and the state's failure to protect them.

Attendees at the rally voiced frustration over the authorities' perceived inaction against militants, expressing a desire to live without fear after years of conflict. The Swat Valley, once a stronghold for the Taliban between 2007 and 2009, has seen a resurgence of militant activity. The Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has been particularly active, though it operates separately from, but in alliance with, Afghanistan's Taliban rulers.

Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the bombing. Zardari asserted that "terrorists will never succeed in their nefarious efforts to harm peace, national unity and the writ of the state." Pakistan has recently experienced a significant increase in militant attacks, with security forces and police frequently being targeted. The Pakistani government has expressed concerns that the TTP and other militant groups receive support from Afghanistan's Taliban rulers, leading to ongoing tensions between the neighboring countries.
