Umme Fatema Nazma Begum, a former lawmaker for the Awami League representing women's reserved seats and also known as Sheuly Azad, has been released from jail on bail. She walked out of Brahmanbaria District Jail on the night of July 21, though the news only surfaced on Thursday.

Brahmanbaria District Jail Superintendent Md Mujibur Rahman Majumder confirmed her release, stating it followed a court order granting her bail. Azad, who serves as the general secretary of the Sarail upazila Awami League, an organization whose activities are currently banned, is also a member of the Brahmanbaria district unit of the party.

She was arrested by the Detective Branch of police at her Dhaka home in October 2024. Authorities subsequently listed her as arrested in a murder case filed at Sarail Police Station. According to the police station, the murder case was initiated in September 2024 and lists 67 Awami League members, including former housing and public works minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, as defendants. Umme Fatema is identified as the fourth suspect in this case.
