Major (retd) Muzaffar Hossain was brought before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh on Thursday morning, in connection with a case alleging crimes against humanity. He was taken to the tribunal around 9:30 am and is expected to be formally arrested later today. The hearing is scheduled to commence at 11:00 am.

Recent investigations by ICT Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam have revealed significant communication between Muzaffar and Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury. Chowdhury is identified as a central figure in the 2007 army-backed caretaker government and is himself an accused in the same crimes against humanity case.

The chief prosecutor alleged that Muzaffar maintained regular contact with Masud over the past 16 years. It is also alleged that Muzaffar frequently crossed into a neighboring country while remaining a fugitive and was closely associated with Masud, who is accused of playing roles in conspiracies surrounding several general elections.

Muzaffar's appearance at the ICT follows his arrest by Detective Branch (DB) police on July 16. He was taken into custody over his alleged involvement in the 1981 assassination of former president Ziaur Rahman.
