A BNP activist was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Dhaka's Sabujbagh area on Tuesday evening. Palash, 36, was attacked around 7:30 p.m. in an alley near the Rajarbagh water pump. Friends rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 10:00 p.m.

Palash's friend Md Hira stated that the victim, who was unemployed but previously drove for a rent-a-car service, was involved in BNP politics in Ward-5 of Sabujbagh. He was reportedly close to Liton Khan, the president of Ward-5 BNP. Initially taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital, Palash was later referred to DMCH where he succumbed to his injuries.

Sabujbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Saifur Rahman confirmed the incident and stated that a team was at the scene gathering details. However, Sabujbagh Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Ismail Hussain Khan told The Daily Star around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday that the murder was linked to a financial transaction. "Some people owed Palash money. When he went to recover the loan, he was hacked to death," Khan said.
