Tensions flared at Jagannath University as the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) faced accusations of attacking members of the Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, Inqilab Mancha, and Islami Chhatra Shibir. In response, the Jatiya Chhatra Shakti organized a protest rally on campus, demanding swift action against those responsible.

During the demonstration, General Secretary of the JnU unit Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, Shahin Mia, asserted the university belongs to its general students, not specific political factions. He warned the JCD against attempting to establish dominance and cautioned them against following a path similar to the Chhatra League, implying dire consequences.

Jagannath University belongs to its general students. It has not been handed over to Chhatra Dal, nor to Chhatra League. As long as we are here, we will not allow Chhatra Dal to establish the dominance it is trying to impose.

The protesters presented a five-point charter of demands. These include the permanent expulsion of individuals involved in the attack, the provision of temporary accommodation on the university's second campus within six months, and the handover of all construction work for the new campus to the army. Crucially, they also called for an immediate halt to political activities by non-students and enhanced safety measures to ensure the university's prompt reopening.

This incident at Jagannath University is part of a broader pattern of escalating campus violence. Clashes between rival student groups, often affiliated with the ruling BNP and opposition Jamaat-e-Islami, have occurred at multiple educational institutions in Dhaka and Rangpur. These confrontations, fueled by events like the July Uprising Day commemorations, have resulted in numerous injuries, including those of student leaders and journalists, raising fears of a return to widespread campus unrest.
