Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has issued a stern warning against leveraging government connections or affiliations with ruling-party figures to secure business favors. He emphasized that such practices will not be tolerated under the current administration, regardless of the seniority or influence of the individuals involved.

Chowdhury made these remarks at the Chattogram Port, responding to questions from journalists about allegations that some ruling party-backed clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents at the Chattogram Customs House were evading duties. These agents reportedly used the names of government Members of Parliament and ministers to facilitate their illicit activities.

The minister's strong stance was articulated in the presence of key officials, including Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral M Moniruzzaman and National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Ahsan Habib. Earlier, Chowdhury had participated in a meeting with representatives from the NBR, customs, the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce, BGMEA, BKMEA, shipping agents, and other stakeholders. The discussions focused on resolving port and customs issues, expediting cargo clearance, enhancing port operations, and reducing overall business costs.

It does not matter who knows whom -- such practices will not be tolerated under this government. We will not allow anyone to gain preferential treatment in business through connections. No matter how senior a minister or how powerful a person may be, there is absolutely no scope for this.
