The Bangladeshi government is demonstrating a high level of commitment and responsibility in addressing the severe flooding across the country, acting under the direct directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister's Office is coordinating a comprehensive response aimed at ensuring the rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of all affected citizens.

Mahdi Amin, an adviser to the Prime Minister and spokesperson for the PMO, briefed reporters on the ongoing efforts. He stated that the Prime Minister has been monitoring the flood situation around the clock, engaging with officials at both national and local levels to manage the crisis. Heavy rainfall has caused widespread floods, landslides, and waterlogging, with the districts of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban experiencing the most severe impacts.

The government is working with the highest level of commitment and responsibility under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s directives to ensure rescue, relief and rehabilitation for flood‑affected people across the country.

In a significant move, the Prime Minister personally communicated with divisional commissioners, police officials, deputy commissioners, civil surgeons, and fire service personnel in the five worst-hit districts. She instructed them to remain present with the affected populations and ensure the effectiveness of rescue and relief operations. A meeting with all divisional commissioners is scheduled to further review the situation and issue additional directives.

The government's coordinated response spans from the upazila level to the national administration. State Minister for Power and Energy Aninda Islam Amit is currently in Chattogram to oversee relief efforts, supported by local Members of Parliament and political leaders. Additionally, opposition party leaders have also been instructed to participate in rescue and relief work. The Prime Minister has approved emergency financial assistance exceeding Tk 2 crore, alongside the distribution of rice and other essential relief materials. Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in the affected Chattogram division have been postponed. The Bangladesh Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh, and the army have been deployed to coastal, border, and other necessary areas, respectively. Medical teams are mobilized with supplies to combat water-borne diseases and snake bites. Plans are also in motion for repairing damaged infrastructure once floodwaters recede, and compensation is being arranged for affected households, farmers, and business owners. A food-friendly program is set to launch soon.
