Oborevwori Appeals to Tinubu and Army to Site 83 Division Headquarters in Delta

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori wants the headquarters of Nigeria’s newly created 83 Division located in his state, arguing that Delta is the most connected base for military operations across the region.

Oborevwori made the appeal in Asaba during a stakeholders’ consultative meeting with a Nigerian Army committee. The delegation, led by Major-General Thompson Bobby Ugiagbe, Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, is consulting on the realignment of areas of responsibility following the division’s creation.

The governor said Delta’s position between Delta, Edo and Bayelsa would make it easier for personnel and equipment to reach surrounding areas. “Delta is more central. He also pointed to the state’s oil and gas production and its strategic infrastructure. Delta has airports in Asaba, Osubi and Escravos, as well as seaports in Warri, Burutu, Sapele and Koko, he said. These facilities require security, he added.

Oborevwori asked the committee to recommend Delta to the Chief of Army Staff and the president. He said the state would provide land and temporary facilities and contribute financially to the formation’s launch. “This is not a passive appeal for the constitution of the division. It is a request for partnership from a state that understands what is at stake,” he said. He also cited Delta’s retired senior military officers, including former four-star generals, and recalled the state’s previous support for military formations.
