Obstetricians Risk Exclusion from Serums Process; Seek Meeting with Keiko Fujimori

A group of 97 obstetricians faces potential exclusion from the 2026-II Rural and Urban Marginal Health Service (Serums) placement process, with the registration deadline looming. Zayuri Marcelo Pérez, a representative for the group, alerted La República that these professionals risk being barred from the process due to ongoing issues with their professional registration, a mandatory requirement for Serums placements.

The obstetricians were among 354 professionals declared ineligible for the 2026-I Serums round under the previous administration, citing problems with their professional college registration. They fear a repeat of this exclusion as they have not received a definitive response from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) despite repeated attempts to communicate. The core of the problem lies in an internal dispute within the College of Obstetricians of Peru (COP), where the current leadership does not recognize registrations issued by previous administrations. Minsa's stance is that without valid registration, these obstetricians cannot be placed.

Marcelo argues that Minsa should not take a stance on the matter while the dispute over COP's representation is still under judicial review. She highlighted that Minsa has accepted registrations from the newly started COP management, effectively disregarding those obtained through regular processes. This situation creates significant uncertainty for the obstetricians, especially as the 2026-II Serums placement process is in its final hours. Despite promises from former Minister Luis Velasco to create extraordinary placements and discussions with the current minister, Luis Dyer, no concrete solution has been offered, leaving the professionals in limbo.
