Odesa stadium hit in Russian attack; roof severely damaged, two injured

The Chornomorets Stadium in the Ukrainian city of Odesa suffered considerable damage after a Russian attack overnight between August 7 and 8. A large hole was torn in the stadium's roof, and the arena's windows and stands were also impacted by the strike.

Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, confirmed the attack and reported casualties. According to stadium representatives, two individuals sustained minor injuries and received on-site medical attention. The attack occurred in Shevchenko Park, a popular public area in the city center.

"It's the center of the city, Shevchenko Park, where there are always many people," stated Ukrainian MP Oleksii Goncharenko, emphasizing the location's significance and potential for greater harm.

The stadium was scheduled to host a Ukrainian league match between Chornomorets Odesa and Kolos Kovalivka on August 8. Following the attack, authorities deemed it necessary to inspect the arena for safety before determining if the match could proceed. Journalist Igor Burbas reported that the match has been postponed at the home team's request due to the damage to the stadium's roof and other areas.

This incident follows a recent Russian missile attack on the outskirts of Odesa on August 4, which damaged civilian infrastructure and injured three men. Ukrainian air forces had previously issued warnings about attack drones heading towards Odesa.
