Ododo’s achievements will ensure his 2027 re-election - Ex-Kogi speaker

Former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Matthew Kolawole, expressed strong confidence that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is well-positioned for re-election in 2027, attributing this outlook to the administration's performance since January 2024. Kolawole highlighted significant interventions across various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, agriculture, workers' welfare, and youth empowerment as evidence of Ododo's impact.

Since assuming office in January 2024, the Ododo administration has embarked on several projects and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of residents and strengthening the state’s economic base.

Kolawole specifically pointed to the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of roads across numerous communities as a major focus of the Ododo administration. Furthermore, he mentioned the commencement of work on the proposed Kogi International Airport, a project anticipated to boost transportation, attract investment, and stimulate economic activity within the state. In the education sector, the government has continued its support for students through bursaries, scholarships, and the payment of examination fees, alongside renovation projects for several schools.

One of the major areas of focus has been infrastructure development, with the government undertaking the construction and rehabilitation of roads across various communities.

The administration has also prioritized the development of tertiary institutions, including efforts to revive the MBBS program at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba. Healthcare delivery has seen investments in primary healthcare infrastructure and initiatives to improve access to medical services, particularly in rural areas, with measures in place to attract and retain medical personnel. Security has also been identified as a major priority, with strengthened collaborations among security agencies.

The administration has also commenced work on the proposed Kogi International Airport, a project expected to improve transportation, attract investment and strengthen economic activities in the state.

Beyond state-level politics, Kolawole commented on the national landscape, expressing optimism about President Bola Tinubu's administration. He suggested that ongoing reforms and development initiatives, if sustained, have the potential to strengthen Nigeria's economy and enhance the welfare of its citizens. Kolawole also referenced the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) conduct in recent Ekiti and Osun governorship elections as an indication of the commission's preparedness for free, fair, and credible general elections in 2027.
