Office for Statistics: Number of Business Registrations in Berlin Stagnates

Berlin's business landscape showed little change in the first six months of the year, as the number of new business registrations experienced a slight decline. According to the Office for Statistics Berlin-Brandenburg, around 22,300 businesses were registered during this period, marking a 0.5 percent decrease compared to the same period in the previous year.

Simultaneously, the number of businesses that ceased operations also fell significantly. Nearly 15,000 businesses were deregistered, representing an 8.3 percent decrease from the first half of 2025. The statistics indicate that approximately 93 percent of the new registrations were startups, while 91.5 percent of de-registrations signified complete business closures.

The retail sector dominated both the registration and de-registration figures, highlighting its significant role in the city's economy. Other business services followed as the second-largest category. The figures also include relocations of companies to other federal states, contributing to the overall numbers.
