Officers feared for their lives during police chase in Taastrup

Police officers feared for their lives and were forced to jump aside or run as the driver of a stolen white van attempted to escape during a pursuit on Taastrup Hovedgade on Thursday. The dramatic events unfolded as officers tried to stop the vehicle, which had been reported stolen.

The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Brian Bo Larsen, was later brought before the Glostrup Court for a preliminary hearing. He faces charges of attempted aggravated assault against police and endangering officers. Larsen denies the charges but was ordered by a judge to be held in custody for 27 days.

During the chase, the white van was boxed in by two police cars. However, Larsen allegedly accelerated towards one police car and then reversed towards a civilian patrol car. An officer who had exited the civilian car narrowly avoided being hit. The van then moved towards an incident commander's vehicle, where two officers had also exited. A female officer reported fearing for her life and had to flee as the van drove towards her, subsequently firing two shots at the vehicle's hood.

Larsen, who has a history of criminal activity and is known as "the escape king" for multiple previous prison breaks, including a notable escape from Vridsløselille prison in 1995, was apprehended around 11:45 AM on Ludvig Hegners Allé. He reportedly attempted to hide between two carports. He also faces charges for endangering several motorists during the pursuit, allegedly colliding with two drivers while trying to evade police.
