Officials warn deployment of ISF could strengthen Hamas, restrict IDF operations in Gaza

The deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) into Gaza could significantly restrict the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) ability to conduct offensive operations and weaken its capacity to counter emerging terrorist cells, according to assessments by the defense establishment. Diplomatic and security sources also expressed concerns that the ISF's presence could inadvertently strengthen Hamas.

These concerns arise as the United States reportedly urges Israel to move forward with rebuilding Gaza even before the territory is fully demilitarized and Hamas is disarmed. Despite these reservations, Israel's security cabinet approved immunity for the ISF ahead of its deployment to specific areas within Gaza.

An international official explained that the principle approval for the ISF's entry was part of U.S. President Donald Trump's 20-point plan, which was linked to the release of hostages. The plan involves approximately 200 personnel from countries friendly to Israel, including Uganda and Morocco.

However, defense officials have requested the U.S. postpone further stages of the initiative to prevent the erosion of the IDF's achievements. They argue that the move normalizes Hamas's current position, allowing the organization to select new leaders, rebuild its military wing, and reestablish its rule. Officials stressed that only the IDF possesses the capability to effectively clear Gaza of weapons and disarm Hamas, expressing doubt over the feasibility of a multinational force achieving this goal.
