Ogogo’s burial: Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, others arrive in Ilaro

The Nigerian film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, who passed away at the age of 66. His burial rites took place in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026. Prominent Nollywood figures, including Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, and Toyosi Adesanya, gathered to pay their respects and participate in the Janazah prayers.

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years.

Ogogo's death comes after a period of illness. His daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had recently appealed for medical assistance for their father, who was battling stage-four cancer. The family was informed by doctors that chemotherapy was no longer an option due to his condition, leading them to explore alternative treatments.

His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where the lying-in-state ceremony will take place tomorrow.

Taiwo Hassan was a significant figure in Nigerian cinema, particularly celebrated for his extensive work in Yoruba-language films. His career, spanning over four decades, saw him feature in hundreds of movies, establishing him as a recognizable and respected presence in the industry. The announcement of his passing was shared by actor Jide Kosoko on Instagram, detailing the burial arrangements and praying for his eternal rest.
