Ogualu wins NNPC-SNEPCo Junior Championship Girls 16s after dramatic final

Emmanuella Ogualu, a Nigerian-born player based in the Netherlands, clinched the Girls 16s title at the NNPC-SNEPCo Junior Championship. Ogualu entered the event as preparation for international tournaments but faced unexpected challenges. After losing her final round-robin match to top seed Gloria Samuel, she secured her spot in the final by winning her semifinal. In a rematch of the round-robin, Ogualu dominated the final with powerful shots and seven aces, winning 9-7 against Samuel.

The Girls 14s final provided significant drama. Top seed Adesinmi Olayinka saw her 8-3 lead evaporate against Chisimdi Afammbonu, who staged an impressive comeback. However, Olayinka ultimately capitalized on a tiring opponent to win the tiebreak and the match.

In the boys' categories, Godwin Afaramai won the Boys 12s, showcasing remarkable determination by chasing down every ball. His brother, Heman Afaramai, secured the Boys 16s title. Goodluck Tersoo claimed the Boys 14s title with a comfortable win.

Chimdiuto Obiora, celebrating her birthday, won the Girls 12s. Both Obiora and Godwin Afaramai were recognized as the tournament's most outstanding players. Special guest Rolake Olagbegi, a former Nigerian champion and collegiate star, expressed optimism about the future of Nigerian junior tennis, noting the high standard of play.
