Ogun gov: APC disowns Hunye, insists Yayi is candidate

The national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly reaffirmed Solomon Adeola, widely known as Yayi, as the party's official candidate for the Ogun State governorship election in 2027. This declaration comes amidst a challenge from Abayomi Hunye, who had claimed to be the party's candidate following a primary election dispute.

In a strong disclaimer signed by its National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, the APC labeled Hunye an impostor and highlighted his current suspension from the party. According to the APC, Hunye's suspension, effective April 7, 2026, was a grassroots decision originating from his ward and ratified by local and state party structures. The party cited activities injurious to the APC's image and deliberate actions causing disaffection among members as reasons for his suspension, asserting that he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the party.

Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity.

The APC confirmed that Solomon Adeola, with Kudirat Balogun as his running mate, were the duly nominated candidates following a valid primary election. Their particulars have been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, and the party has received official acknowledgement slips from INEC confirming their status as the APC's flag bearers for the February 2027 election.

The party issued a stern warning to any individual, group, or organization engaging in political dealings with Hunye under the APC banner, stating they would do so at their own risk. The APC also announced its intention to instruct its legal team to initiate contempt proceedings and file a formal complaint with security agencies regarding Hunye's alleged misrepresentation and impersonation. The Ogun State chapter of the APC, through its chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, also issued a separate statement denouncing Hunye's claim as false and urging members and the public to disregard it.
