Sanwo-Olu urges Academy fellows to focus on public impact

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged participants in the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) to prioritize practical solutions and measurable impact in their leadership endeavors. Speaking during the final mentorship session for the 2025/2026 cohort at Lagos House, Marina, Sanwo-Olu stressed that leadership effectiveness is ultimately judged by its ability to address societal challenges.

Sanwo-Olu engaged the fellows on the realities of public leadership, decision-making, and service, offering insights from his experience in government. He advised the young leaders to embrace continuous learning and patience within the leadership process. "Effective leadership is ultimately measured by the solutions it delivers and the impact it creates," the governor stated, emphasizing outcomes over leadership as an abstract concept.

The session provided fellows with direct access to the governor's perspective on translating leadership ideals into public policy and tangible results. The cohort also presented policy recommendations on critical issues affecting Lagos, showcasing how emerging leaders could contribute to the state's development. These presentations were based on their exposure to governance and public-sector institutions during the fellowship.

The governor encouraged the fellows to sustain the relationships and networks forged during the academy. He urged them to contribute to a robust LJLA alumni community, viewing the acquired experience, knowledge, and networks as a foundation for ongoing collaboration and public service. The Executive Secretary of LJLA, Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his support for youth development, noting the session's value in deepening the fellows' understanding of public leadership responsibilities. The session was attended by members of the Lagos State Executive Council and other senior government officials.
