Ogun gov gifts Babcock varsity best graduating students N11m

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun celebrated academic achievement and moral responsibility at Babcock University's 15th Postgraduate Convocation. He presented N11 million to the best graduating students, emphasizing the importance of integrity, innovation, and service.

He stressed that education without character poses a danger to society and that future success hinges on combining intellectual prowess with ethical conduct. The governor challenged students to reject mediocrity and embrace innovation that can transform society, noting that artificial intelligence cannot replace integrity, compassion, or ethical judgment.

Abiodun also highlighted his administration's commitment to education in Ogun State. He detailed reforms such as recruiting over 6,000 teachers through the Ogun Teach Program and rehabilitating schools under the Ogun Rehab Initiative. The state's digital education reforms, including the Learner Identification Number initiative, have been adopted nationally, demonstrating a commitment to investing in human capital through education, technology, enterprise, and innovation.

Artificial intelligence can process information with astonishing speed, but it can not replace integrity. It cannot replace compassion, moral responsibility, or ethical judgement.

The ceremony also marked the conferment of doctorate degrees on the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, and his Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo. Babcock University President and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, encouraged doctoral graduates to view their degrees as a starting point for greater responsibilities.
