Tinubu hails Badejo-Okusanya on historic NBA presidency victory

President Bola Tinubu has celebrated the election of Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, as the first elected female President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). He described her victory as a significant milestone for the legal profession and a testament to merit, excellence, and gender inclusion in Nigeria.

In a statement, Tinubu noted that Badejo-Okusanya's emergence reflects the growing recognition of women's contributions to nation-building and the justice system. He praised her distinguished legal career, characterized by integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to justice, which earned her the confidence of lawyers nationwide. The President expressed confidence that her leadership will strengthen the legal profession by upholding the rule of law and advancing reforms to improve access to justice for all Nigerians.

Tinubu also urged the newly elected NBA President to foster unity within the association following a closely contested election. He encouraged her to reach out to other contestants, unify the bar, and address issues that arose during the election process. The President assured her of his administration's commitment to collaborating with the NBA to deepen democratic governance, promote justice, and build a more prosperous and united Nigeria. Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes, defeating her closest rival, Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who garnered 7,934 votes.
