Ogun Governor Seeks Stronger Government-Church Partnership for Youth Development

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged for a strengthened collaboration between the government and the Church, emphasizing the critical role faith-based institutions play in nurturing disciplined, cultured, and responsible young citizens. Speaking at the Golden Jubilee Thanksgiving Service of the Egba Anglican Diocese in Abeokuta, Abiodun stated that while the government is responsible for providing infrastructure, education, and economic opportunities, the Church is vital for building character and instilling sound moral values in the younger generation.

The governor drew parallels between the diocese's 50th anniversary and Ogun State's own golden jubilee, viewing it as an opportune moment to reflect on progress and recommit to building a peaceful and prosperous society. He stressed that true development transcends physical infrastructure, requiring deliberate investment in human capital and character. Abiodun cautioned against allowing rapid technological advancements, including artificial intelligence, to overshadow essential human qualities like truth, wisdom, conscience, and moral intelligence.

"The future we seek to build must be a future where technological advancement is matched by moral advancement; where artificial intelligence does not replace human wisdom, conscience and responsibility," Abiodun declared. He reaffirmed his administration's dedication to religious harmony and peaceful coexistence, recognizing the mutual respect among diverse faith communities as a significant strength of Ogun State. The governor assured religious leaders of continued partnership in promoting peace, unity, responsible citizenship, and values that fortify the family and society.

During the event, Governor Abiodun unveiled the commemorative plaque for the six-floor Cathedral Tower, expressing hope that it would serve as a symbol of a generation committed to faith and future preparedness. In his sermon, Archbishop Henry C. Ndukuba of the Anglican Communion called on Christians to embrace God's call with courage and strength, celebrating the golden jubilee as a testament to God's faithfulness and the Anglican Church's enduring contributions to education and societal development.
