Ogun hosts second Wamufat/NSSF sports camp

Ogun State is set to host the second annual Wamufat Sports Camp, Run Ogun, from August 3 to 8, 2026. This initiative, organized by the US-based Wamufat Youth Community Development Foundation (WYCDF) in collaboration with the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), aims to provide comprehensive development for children aged 10 to 16.

Over six days, participants will engage in free coaching across a diverse range of sports, including athletics, football, chess, netball, golf, ayo, and tennis. Beyond athletic training, the camp emphasizes character development through a daily curriculum focused on values such as gratitude, respect, excellence, teamwork, resilience, and integrity. A dedicated team of coaches and mentors will guide the young athletes, fostering discipline and self-belief before they showcase their progress at a community Race Day on Saturday, August 8.

This second edition expands upon the success of the inaugural camp held in August 2025 at the Agroterra Sports Complex in Joga-Orile, Ogun State. That event brought together more than 450 children and included appearances by Nigerian sporting legends like Olympic medallist Mary Onyali and former Super Eagles international Mutiu Adepoju, who shared their experiences and inspired the attendees.

Fatimoh Muhammed, President of WYCDF, highlighted the community's role in supporting the initiative. "Last year showed us what’s possible when a community rallies around its children," she stated. "This second edition is about going further, reaching more children, deepening the mentorship, and reminding every young person that they matter, on and off the field." The camp benefits from international and local partnerships, with NSSF leading technical aspects and US-based Run Your City contributing coaching expertise.
