Ogun kidnap gang hit as police kill two, recover cash

Ogun State police have neutralized two suspected kidnappers and recovered a significant sum of money following the successful rescue of an abducted victim. The operation, conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, targeted a syndicate that had abducted a victim on June 11 in Ogbe Village.

Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives successfully traced members of the gang to their hideout within the state.

After deploying intelligence and tactical resources, police secured the victim's release on June 18 without harm. The focus then shifted to apprehending the perpetrators. Operatives tracked the gang to their hideout, where a gun battle ensued when the suspects resisted arrest. Two kidnappers were killed in the exchange, while others escaped with injuries.

On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape.

During a search of one of the neutralized suspects, police found a single-barrel gun. Further examination of the scene yielded a spent cartridge, a mobile phone, and N2,200,000, believed to be criminal proceeds. The command is actively working to capture the fleeing suspects and expand the investigation into the gang's operations.

The operatives responded professionally, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries.

State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the unit's gallantry and effectiveness, reaffirming the command's commitment to combating violent crime. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
