Ogun PDP Accuses State Govt of Mobilising Teachers for APC Candidate's Meeting

The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the state government of exploiting the education sector for political gain. The opposition party alleges that public school teachers and head teachers are being directed to attend a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi.

Our teachers are nation-builders entrusted with the future of our children, not political foot soldiers to be marshalled at the whims of the ruling party. Coercing civil servants into attending political gatherings under the threat of administrative duty is illegal, unethical and highly oppressive.

According to a statement from the PDP's media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, a memo purportedly issued by teachers' bodies under the instruction of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Chairman, Alhaji Comrade Adeosun Tajudeen Adekunle, and the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Executive Chairman, directed educators to attend the August 3, 2026 meeting. The meeting is allegedly disguised as "statutory and administrative duties" but is intended as a political rally for the APC candidate.

The PDP campaign office has strongly condemned this action, labeling it a "blatant abuse of power" and the "weaponization of the State’s civil service." They argue there is no legitimate justification for compelling teachers to leave their official duties for a political event. The instruction for unique attire for identification further exposes the gathering as a "political jamboree" using educators as "political pawns."

The opposition party stressed that the education sector and civil service must remain politically neutral. They assert that teachers are nation-builders, not political operatives, and that coercing them into attending political gatherings under threat of administrative duty is illegal, unethical, and oppressive. The PDP urged education authorities to prioritize improving public education quality over political mobilization.

The TESCOM and SUBEB should focus on addressing the decay in our public schools, improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the standard of basic education in Ogun State, rather than engaging in political mobilisation.
