Ogun Police Investigate Farmland Destruction and Land Grabbing Claims

The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation into serious allegations of farmland destruction and land grabbing in the Ajogbo Akia community. This action follows media reports highlighting concerns raised by local leaders and residents. Police Commissioner Bode Ojajuni has personally ordered an immediate and comprehensive inquiry to uncover the truth, identify those responsible for any criminal activities, and ensure accountability.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, has ordered an immediate, comprehensive investigation into the allegations to ascertain the true facts, identify perpetrators, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The police statement emphasized that while land title disputes are civil matters for the courts, criminal acts such as malicious damage to crops, property destruction, trespass, or threats to life are subject to police investigation and prosecution. This clarification aims to guide individuals with legitimate land ownership documentation on how to seek legal recourse when facing criminal actions.

To maintain order and ensure the safety of the community, the Command has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to deploy high-visibility patrols and intelligence assets to Ajogbo Akia and surrounding agricultural areas. These patrols will operate day and night to allow farmers and residents to conduct their activities without fear of violence or harassment.

Where a party possesses legitimate title and statutory documentation of land ownership but suffers any criminal act such as malicious damage to crops, destruction of property, criminal trespass, or threats to life; the law gives such individuals the right to report these acts to the Police for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.

The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its firm stance against illegal land grabbing, vigilantism, and threats to life. The police commended the local traditional ruler, Baale Dr. Oluwasegun Adebiyi, and other community leaders for seeking official intervention rather than resorting to violence. Residents are encouraged to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation by providing credible information, which will aid in establishing lasting peace in the community and across Ogun State.
