Olimpia and Guaraní meet in Paraguay’s “oldest classic” in Clausura round seven

Defensores del Chaco hosts another edition of Paraguay’s “oldest classic,” with Olimpia facing Guaraní in a match shaped by contrasting fortunes.

The main attraction for Guaraní is the return of Francisco “Chiqui” Arce to the bench. He takes over a team struggling with instability and becomes the club’s fourth coach of the season, or fifth on the official roster.

Olimpia arrive in stronger spirits after notable victories against Cerro Porteño and Recoleta FC. The club, known as El Expreso Decano, has recorded four wins and three defeats and is looking to strengthen its position near the top of the table against a traditional rival seeking answers.

Olimpia started with Gastón Olveira in goal, alongside Raúl Cáceres, Gustavo Vargas, Mateo Gamarra, Esteban Matus, Fernando Cardozo, Álex Franco, Richard Sánchez, Bernardo Romeo Benítez, Franco Alfonso and Tiago Caballero. Guaraní named Miguel Martínez, Amando Méndez, Thiago Servín, Imanol Segovia, Leandro Allende, Diego Fernández, Patricio Tanda, Luis Martínez Soto, Matías López, Carlos Arrúa and Juan Manuel García.

After 15 minutes, Olimpia controlled possession and territory but had not created enough attacking clarity to seriously threaten Miguel Martínez’s goal.
