Olimpia begins preparations for second half of season

Olimpia, the reigning champions of Paraguayan football, are set to commence their preparations for the latter half of the season this Tuesday. The team is returning to training after securing the Apertura 2026 tournament title and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals, having enjoyed a brief but well-deserved rest.

The training sessions will take place at their facility in Fernando de la Mora. Under the guidance of coach Pablo "Vitamina" Sánchez, the squad will see some new faces. The club has made a significant offensive signing in Argentine forward Braian Ezequiel Romero, 34, who most recently played for Vélez Sarsfield.

In conjunction with new arrivals, Olimpia has parted ways with several players, including Rodrigo Pérez, Alejandro Silva, Lucas Morales, and Aníbal Chalá. Paraguayan-Uruguayan player Faustino Barone is also not in the technical staff's plans and is expected to be loaned out.

The club is also welcoming back players who were on loan, such as Alexis Cantero, Pedro Zarza, Víctor Sebastián Quintana, Paulo Riveros, and Julio Alexis Vargas. However, due to limited roster spots, not all of them are guaranteed a place on the team. The Clausura championship is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 24, with Olimpia facing Libertad in their opening match as the home team. In the Copa Sudamericana, Olimpia awaits the winner of the playoff between Vasco da Gama and Deportivo Independiente Medellín.
