Olimpija, Ineffective on the Field, Enriched by Two Million Euros

Despite a challenging period on the field, Slovenian football club Olimpija Ljubljana has secured a significant financial boost through the sale of striker Admir Bristrić to English club Leicester City.

Bristrić, a 23-year-old forward, will join the 2016 English champions for a transfer fee of two million euros. While Bristrić did not consistently feature in Olimpija's starting lineup, scoring his last goal for the club on April 14, 2024, his move represents a substantial financial gain for the Ljubljana-based team.

The transfer comes at a time when Olimpija has experienced a coaching change, with Jugoslav Trenčovski replacing Mišo Brečko, and has struggled with recent league results. The team opened its 1 Liga season with two losses and one win before facing a derby match.

Even with the team's on-field difficulties, the club managed to negotiate a lucrative deal for Bristrić. Leicester City, though relegated to the third tier of English football (EFL League One) last season, has invested significantly in the young forward from Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The club is also focusing on team building, having recently held a team-building event. This sale provides a financial injection that could aid the club as it navigates its current sporting challenges and transitions under new coaching.
