Olubadan mourns Ibadan chief Lekan Alabi

The death of Chief Lekan Alabi, a veteran journalist and former press secretary to past Oyo State governors, has been described as devastating and heartbreaking by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Saturday described the death of the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi, as devastating and heartbreaking.

Alabi, who was 76, passed away on Saturday morning in Lagos. He was a well-known figure in journalism and public relations, having served multiple governors in Oyo State. He was also a staunch promoter of Ibadan customs and traditions.

Oloye Alabi was an amazing human being who grew up with him in the same Born Photo Isale-Osi neighbourhood in Ibadan.

Oba Ladoja shared a personal connection with Alabi, noting they grew up together in the same neighborhood. He remembered Alabi for his impressive memory, often sharing childhood stories, and for his significant achievements in his professional career. The Olubadan also highlighted Alabi's commitment to traditional matters and his punctuality.

Beyond this, Oloye Alabi had an impressive record of achievements in the field of journalism and public relations. He was an unapologetic promoter of Ibadan customs and traditions, which he wore like a badge.

In his statement, Oba Ladoja prayed for Alabi's soul to rest in peace and for comfort for his family during this difficult time.

When I (Ladoja) was acting Chairman of the Ibadan South East Traditional Council, I recalled that Chief Alabi was a stickler for time and a robust contributor to traditional and customary matters.
