Olympiacos signs Spanish winger Joel Roca from Girona

Olympiacos has secured a significant transfer with the signing of Joel Roca from Girona, concluding nearly a month of negotiations. The 21-year-old Spanish winger, a youth international for Spain, brings valuable experience from 32 La Liga appearances last season, where he scored three goals and provided an assist.

Coach José Luis Mendilibar reportedly identified Roca as an ideal fit for the team's needs. The player's contract will be for five years, with Girona retaining a percentage of any future transfer fee. Roca is expected to join the team in the Netherlands immediately to begin training.

The club has also strengthened its defense with the additions of Carmo and Smiljanic, and bolstered its wing options with Zota Silva, Fortounis, and Roca. However, significant work remains ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in three weeks.

Olympiacos is actively seeking a game-changing midfielder and is uncertain about its forward options. There is also a pressing need to enhance the team's Greek contingent, both for European competition lists and domestic cup regulations. These pursuits are ongoing without any player sales, adding to the time pressure.

The team is reportedly aiming for a major midfield signing, with players of the caliber of Amrabat or Brozović being sought. They are also interested in bringing in Moroccan striker El Kaabi. Reinforcing the Greek presence is also a priority, with a Greek right-back likely to be signed to complement Maffeo, and names like Saliakas and Vrousai being considered. The club may also sign a center-forward, as only El Kaabi is confirmed to stay, with Taremi potentially receiving offers and Yaremchuk facing pressure from Lyon.
