Olympian Christofer Jurado leads Panama's cycling team to Santo Domingo

Panama's cycling contingent is set to make history at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, with Olympian Christofer Jurado spearheading the nation's largest-ever delegation in the sport. The team of eight cyclists traveled to the Dominican Republic this Wednesday, ready to compete in both road and mountain biking disciplines.

Jurado, who represented Panama in the road race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, leads a strong men's road team that also includes Carlos Samudio, Roberto González, and Bolívar Espinosa. The women's road team features Wendy Ducreux, Noemy Atencio, and Maraya López. Roberto Herrera will join the delegation later, competing in the Mountain Bike Cross Country Olympic (MTB XCO) event.

The competition begins on July 25 with individual time trials. Ducreux and Atencio will race over 30 kilometers in the women's category, while Samudio and Espinosa will contest the men's 40-kilometer event. The women's road race, covering 123 kilometers, is scheduled for August 1, with Ducreux, Atencio, and López participating. Herrera will also compete in the MTB XCO on the same day.

The Panamanian cycling campaign concludes on August 2 with the men's road race, a 169-kilometer event featuring Jurado, Samudio, González, and Espinosa. National coach Emer Samudio highlighted the team's exceptional preparation, international experience, and individual skill levels, stating a clear objective to secure podium spots and proudly represent Panama.
