Oman Charitable Organization and Red Cross Discuss Cooperation on Omani Red Crescent Recognition

The Oman Charitable Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross have discussed the requirements and procedures needed to complete the Omani Red Crescent’s official recognition within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The talks took place during a meeting between Badr Mohammed Al Zaabi, acting chief executive officer of the Oman Charitable Organization, and Pierre Krähenbühl, director general of the International Committee of the Red Cross, who visited the organisation’s headquarters with a delegation.

Al Zaabi welcomed the visit as an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the committee and draw on its long experience in humanitarian work. He said the engagement would support Oman’s efforts to develop its humanitarian system and strengthen its presence nationally and internationally.

Krähenbühl said the visit aimed to improve the committee’s understanding of the organisation and its officials, learn about its plans for the coming phase and facilitate coordination and support for completing the requirements for recognition of the Omani Red Crescent.

The delegation praised Oman’s humanitarian role and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s support for humanitarian efforts and international cooperation. It also commended the Oman Charitable Organization for facilitating the work of the international movement and supporting its humanitarian activities.

Both sides stressed the need to build the Red Crescent on strong institutional and humanitarian foundations. They identified governance, institutional development, training, capacity building and the exchange of expertise as areas for cooperation, alongside continued coordination on the Omani Red Crescent’s development. The organisations said they hoped to begin a new phase of technical support, training and partnership to strengthen its humanitarian role.
