Oman concludes Asian Youth Championship group stage with defeat, shifts focus to placement round

Oman's national youth handball team concluded its group stage campaign at the 19th Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship with a decisive 41-26 loss to Chinese Taipei. This result dashed their aspirations of advancing to the tournament's knockout stage, which also serves as a qualifier for the IHF Men's Youth World Championship.

The team will now shift its focus to the placement matches, where they will compete for positions ninth through thirteenth. Their first match in this phase is scheduled for Saturday against Qatar. The Omani delegation stressed that the experience gained throughout the championship is a significant investment in the future of the country's handball program, particularly as most players were making their debut at this level of Asian competition.

Chinese Taipei established an early lead, but Oman showed resilience, with Mohammed Al Hasani being a standout performer in the first half. Although Oman displayed organized defense and created scoring opportunities, they struggled to convert consistently against Chinese Taipei's defense, trailing 18-12 at halftime. The second half saw an improved display from Oman, with players showing more aggression and confidence. However, the physical toll of five consecutive matches began to affect the team, allowing Chinese Taipei to extend its lead and ultimately secure the victory.
