Oman detects suspected mine in Hormuz Strait; Israel strikes Lebanon amid ongoing conflict

Oman's Maritime Security Center issued a warning to maritime traffic on Tuesday after a suspected naval mine was discovered in the Strait of Hormuz. The object was found floating in the western traffic lane within Omani territorial waters, prompting an urgent alert for all seafarers, fishermen, and vessels.

The center urged caution, advising all to steer clear of any suspicious objects and to immediately report them to the authorities. This discovery comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with previous reports from April indicating that Iran might have deployed numerous mines in and around the vital shipping lane. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had also previously warned of a large "danger zone" in the area.

In parallel, the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated. Israel conducted widespread strikes across southern Lebanon on May 30, following an announcement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israeli forces had advanced deeper into Lebanese territory. The Lebanese army reported that two soldiers were seriously injured by an Israeli drone strike on their vehicle near Nabatieh.

Hezbollah, in response, claimed responsibility for launching rockets toward the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona and for ambushing Israeli soldiers near Ghandouriyeh in southern Lebanon. The group also stated it targeted a military base in northern Israel. The ongoing hostilities underscore the volatile security situation in the region.

The Maritime Security Center calls on all seafarers, fishermen, and all ships to exercise extreme caution and vigilance during navigation, to stay away from any suspicious objects, and to report them immediately to the competent authorities.
