Oman: Emergency management committee follows up on grounded ship incident

Sector coordinators for Oman's National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM), along with representatives from military, security, and civil authorities, convened on Thursday to monitor the situation of a grounded ship.

The meeting, chaired by Maj Gen Abdullah Ali Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations and Vice Chairman of the NCEM, specifically addressed the ongoing oil spill from the vessel off the coast of Al Qibliya Island in the Al Hallaniyat Islands archipelago.

Attendees reviewed the progress made in containing the environmental impacts of the oil leak. The Chairman of the Environment Authority presented a detailed statement on the potential consequences of the incident. Representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and other relevant sectors also provided insights into their response mechanisms.

The focus remains on managing the oil spill and mitigating its effects on the marine environment and surrounding areas. The NCEM continues to coordinate efforts among various agencies to ensure a comprehensive response to the incident.
