Oman promotes organ donation culture with awareness event

The Oman Medical Specialty Board hosted a community awareness event titled "Give the Gift of Life" to foster a culture of organ donation across the Sultanate. The initiative sought to significantly raise public understanding of the critical importance of organ donation and encourage more individuals to register as donors.

The event provided attendees with comprehensive information about organ donation, including the types of organs and tissues that can be donated, the medical and legal prerequisites for donation, and the process for registration. A key focus was also placed on addressing and correcting prevalent misconceptions and myths surrounding the practice.

Two panel discussions formed the core of the event. The first delved into the religious and legal dimensions, featuring insights from Dr. Hussein Ali Al Sinani, an Assistant Public Prosecutor, and Hammoud Abdullah Al Habsi, a religious preacher from the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. The second session focused on the medical aspects, presented by a team from the Oman Centre for Organ and Tissue Transplantation Regulation.

An accompanying exhibition featured informational booths detailing the definition of organ donation, eligible organs and tissues, and the medical and legal standards governing the process from donation to transplantation. Information was also shared on pre-transplant, intraoperative, and post-transplant medical care, the importance of physical and psychological rehabilitation for recipients, and the registration procedure. The event in Muscat Governorate attracted a diverse audience, reflecting a growing public awareness and interest in organ donation's role in saving lives and improving patient quality of life.
