Oman reaffirms commitment to maritime navigation freedom at IMO Council

Oman has declared its steadfast commitment to the freedom of maritime navigation, adhering to international law principles. The declaration came during the 137th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in London.

Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, the Transport Undersecretary at Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, delivered a statement. He underscored Oman's dedication to protecting international shipping routes, ensuring maritime safety, and maintaining the smooth flow of global trade.

During the meeting, the Omani delegation, led by Al Shammakhi, engaged in discussions with the IMO Secretary-General. They explored avenues for enhanced cooperation in maritime security and safety, marine environmental protection, and joint responses to emerging maritime challenges. The talks also stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration between Oman and the IMO to bolster international maritime resilience and promote safe, sustainable shipping.
