Oman reaffirms commitment to UNICEF and global efforts to protect children

Oman has reaffirmed its commitment to working with UNICEF and international partners to protect children and help build what it described as a more just, sustainable and equitable future.

Ambassador Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, Oman’s permanent representative to the United Nations, made the statement during the second regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board in New York. Oman praised Estonia for presiding over the board in 2026 and commended UNICEF’s executive director and staff for their work.

The Omani statement highlighted efforts to protect children’s rights and promote their well-being as humanitarian and development challenges grow. It also emphasized the importance of international cooperation on issues affecting children.

The session has particular significance for Oman because it is the country’s final meeting as a member of the UNICEF Executive Board and as vice-president representing the Asia-Pacific Group for 2026. Oman said it took pride in the confidence placed in it by member states and in the opportunity to contribute to consensus-building and constructive dialogue.
