Oman, Saudi Arabia to Boost Economic, Trade, and Industrial Integration

Salalah, Oman, will host the seventh meeting of the Coordination Committee for Economy, Trade and Industry under the Omani-Saudi Coordination Council next Wednesday. The gathering aims to accelerate joint initiatives and deepen economic and industrial integration between the two nations.

Officials and representatives from both Oman and Saudi Arabia will convene to review the progress of current initiatives. They will also consider new proposals and determine strategies to overcome obstacles and expedite implementation. Ghalib bin Said Al Maamari, Oman's Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Trade and Industry, will lead the Omani delegation. Rakan bin Wadhah Trabzoni, Saudi Arabia's Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Planning for International Economic Affairs, will head the Saudi side.

Discussions will focus on critical areas such as industrial supply chains, intra-regional trade, non-oil exports, and investment opportunities, particularly through private-sector partnerships. A significant objective is to facilitate trade between the two markets and ensure Omani and Saudi companies receive equal treatment in government tenders and procurement processes.

This includes easing trade and investment, removing barriers to bilateral trade, reinforcing industrial integration and supply chains, and fostering joint investment ventures. The agenda also encompasses attracting industrial investments, expanding non-oil exports, collaborating on competition and anti-monopoly practices, and simplifying the registration of Omani products with Saudi regulatory bodies.

New prospects in semiconductors, electronic chips, and ready-made factories are anticipated to be key discussion points. Khalid bin Salim Al Qasabi, Director General of Industry at Oman's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, stated that the goal is to unlock new avenues for private-sector cooperation in value-added industries and advanced technologies. The meeting also aims to leverage Oman's strategic position as a re-export hub and enhance intra-regional trade. A significant outcome expected is the signing of an executive program for 2026–2028 to activate the memorandum of understanding between the Omani and Saudi Ministries of Economy and Planning, translating the agreement into concrete projects.
