Oman taps Tunisian-led consortium for advanced air mobility strategy

Oman has entrusted a Tunisian-French-Canadian consortium with the crucial task of developing its national strategy for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The international group, known as GUAMobility, will spend 18 months crafting a roadmap to integrate emerging aviation technologies into the Sultanate's transportation landscape.

The strategic meeting took place in the Bizerte region of Tunisia, where Ambassador Hilal Ben Abdallah Assinaoui of the Sultanate of Oman met with the GUAMobility leadership. This collaboration underscores Tunisia's increasing prominence in the field of future transport technologies.

GUAMobility's mission is to help Oman establish a new mobility model that progressively incorporates technologies such as civil and logistics drones, as well as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The strategy will be built around eight key pillars, including governance, regulatory analysis, infrastructure development (such as vertiports), airspace integration, and fostering an ecosystem for innovation and investment.

This initiative aims to prepare Oman for the emergence of a "low altitude economy," a concept focused on utilizing new aerial transport methods to complement existing ground networks, alleviate urban congestion, and enhance territorial connectivity. The involvement of Tunisian experts in this significant project signals a strong endorsement of national engineering capabilities, as they contribute to areas like air regulation, safety, digital and physical infrastructure, and smart urban planning.
