Oman to join UN global dialogue on AI governance

The Sultanate of Oman is set to join the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance. The event begins Monday in Geneva, coinciding with the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum.

Oman's delegation will be led by Dr. Ali Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology. The Sultanate's Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, will also be part of the delegation.

This global dialogue represents the first UN General Assembly platform dedicated to exchanging best practices in AI methodology development. A key objective is to ensure AI governance prioritizes the needs of all nations, not just the technologically advanced, and that every country has an opportunity to benefit from AI advancements.

The WSIS Forum, organized by the UN's International Telecommunication Union, will feature the latest in artificial intelligence, networking, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital systems. Discussions will also address emerging risks such as online safety, misinformation, data management, and the growing digital divide.
