Oman to see brief penumbral lunar eclipse in August 2026

Residents in Oman will have an opportunity to witness a penumbral lunar eclipse on Friday, August 28, 2026. The Astronomical Affairs department announced that this celestial event will be visible in several regions across the globe.

For the Sultanate of Oman, the eclipse will be a brief affair, observable only during the moon's setting phase. The specific window for viewing in Oman is from 5:23 AM to 5:43 AM local time. During this period, the moon will be close to the horizon, and the subtle dimming characteristic of a penumbral eclipse might be challenging to discern with the naked eye.

The faintness of the penumbral eclipse, combined with the interference from approaching dawn light, means that any change in the moon's appearance may be barely noticeable. Globally, a partial lunar eclipse will occur, with various phases visible in Europe, western Asia, Africa, North and South America, and across the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, as well as Antarctica.
