Omidiran Pledges Support for ABU's 2028 NUGA Games and Sports Excellence Drive

Ayo Omidiran, the Executive Chairman of Nigeria's Federal Character Commission (FCC), has pledged her support for Ahmadu Bello University's (ABU) ambitions to host the 2028 Nigeria University Games (NUGA) and develop a National Centre of Excellence in Sports.

Omidiran, an alumna of ABU, Zaria, made the commitment during a courtesy visit from the university's management, led by Vice-Chancellor Adamu Ahmed. She emphasized the institution's significant role in shaping her character and leadership journey, reaffirming her dedication to supporting initiatives that foster education, youth empowerment, and national development. "I remain immensely proud to be an alumna of Ahmadu Bello University. The university shaped my character, broadened my perspective and prepared me for the responsibilities of leadership and national service," she stated.

The Vice-Chancellor described Omidiran as a distinguished alumna, acknowledging her contributions to public service and sports administration. He highlighted her academic background, her past role as Student Union Government Secretary, her tenure as a two-term member of the House of Representatives, and her pioneering involvement with FIFA's Women's Committee, the Nigerian Olympic Committee, and her founding of Omidiran Babes Football Club. He expressed the university's eagerness to leverage her expertise as they prepare for the 2028 NUGA Games and the establishment of a world-class sports development center.

Omidiran also accepted an invitation to attend ABU's 64th anniversary celebration on October 4. The university views its selection to host the 2028 NUGA Games and its designation as a National Centre of Excellence in Sports as crucial opportunities for youth development and strengthening the nation's sports ecosystem.
