Ondo governor appoints Professor Obamuyi as new AAUA Vice-Chancellor

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The appointment follows a rigorous selection process where Obamuyi emerged as the top candidate among 15 contenders interviewed by the university’s Joint Council and Senate Selection Board. The recommendation was made by the university's Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, in accordance with the University's Act and relevant regulations.

Obamuyi will bring to the office decades of academic excellence, administrative experience, and a strong record of research and institutional development.

Professor Obamuyi, a distinguished figure in Banking and Finance, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the inaugural Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure. His academic achievements were recognized in 2015 when he was named the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa by the Africa Education Leadership Awards.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that Professor Obamuyi’s wealth of experience will consolidate the gains recorded by AAUA and take the university to greater heights in teaching, research, and community service.

His international engagement includes presenting academic papers at conferences globally and serving on National Universities Commission programme accreditation teams. He also chaired the Review Panel for Namibia’s National Council for Higher Education. The statement from the governor's office highlighted Obamuyi's decades of academic excellence, administrative experience, and strong record in research and institutional development.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his confidence that Obamuyi's expertise will build upon AAUA's existing successes and elevate the university further in teaching, research, and community service.
