Ondo Indigenes Protest Reappointment of SSG Who Lost APC Senatorial Ticket

A wave of protest has swept through Ondo State following the reappointment of Taiwo Fasoranti as Secretary to the State Government (SSG). A coalition of indigenes insists Fasoranti forfeited the position when he resigned in April to pursue a senatorial ticket for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

For several months, we, Ondo Redemption Front, have consistently raised concerns about the direction of governance in Ondo State. Unfortunately, rather than addressing these concerns, recent events have only reinforced the conclusion that the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains trapped in a cycle of indecision, poor prioritisation, weak coordination, and governance by reaction rather than by vision.

The aggrieved citizens argue that the SSG office is not a "political holding room" to be vacated and reclaimed at will. They point to the prolonged vacancy of the position after Fasoranti's departure, creating what they describe as an "avoidable vacuum" at the highest level of government administration.

The reappointment of Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti as Secretary to the State Government has once again exposed the absence of strategic thinking within the administration.

Ayodeji Ologun, Chairman of the Ondo Redemption Front (ORF), voiced concerns about the state's governance, citing indecision, poor prioritization, and reactive decision-making. He stated that Fasoranti's reappointment exposes a lack of strategic thinking within Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's administration. Ologun emphasized that a serious government recognizes governance as a continuous process, not one that can be suspended for individual political ambitions.

The office of the Secretary to the State Government is not a ceremonial position. It is the engine room of policy coordination and administrative efficiency.

The protesters question whether the SSG office belongs to the institution of government or has become a personal political asset. They suggest the delay in filling the post reflected a lack of urgency, competent personnel, or an understanding of institutional governance. The reappointment, they contend, raises fundamental questions about the seriousness of governance in Ondo State.
